WCLE Mix 104.1 is partnering with the Salvation Army and asking Clevelanders to purchase and donate fans for those in need in Bradley County who do not have air conditioning and need fans. There are many local businesses that are collecting these “Fans for Friends.” One of the drop-off centers is Cupcake Divas on 25th Street and they will give a free cupcake to anyone who donates a fan there. FREE Kids Meals are continuing through the month of April at the Cleveland Chick Fil-A! Every Tuesday is Family Night at the Cleveland Chick-fil-A from 5-8 pm. They have something fun for the family each Tuesday night such as a craft, family movie, magician, clown, etc. Bring the family for dinner and fun! This Tues. April 27 they will be having Movie Night! The Cleveland Chick-fil-A is offering free kids meals on Tuesday nights from 5-8 pm again for the month of April! It’s the Annual 31 ¢ Scoop Night at Baskin-Robbins from 5-10 pm! (Thanks, Melissa and Shantae for the head’s up.) The Baskin-Robbins Community Foundation will be donating $100,000 to the National Fallen Firefighter’s Foundation. We went last year and it was really crowded, but they did a good job keeping the line moving. There were some fire trucks and firefighters in the parking lot, too, that let kids climb in the firetruck and ask them questions.

Every Thursday is Kiddie Day at Lake Winnepesaukah from 12-8 pm. Children 11 and younger will receive free gate admission (reg $5); family members ages 12 and older pay just $5 gate admission per person. All ages can purchase unlimited rides for only $18 per person (reg. $21). Cool off from the summer heat in the new, refreshing Chill Down Kidtown water & mist play area. Parking is always free. You can purchase individual ride tickets for $1 each (most rides are 2-5 tickets). Children under 2 are admitted free with paying adult, but must pay to ride. The MOMS Club of Cleveland, TN meets the last Friday of every month at 10:30 am at the Cleveland YMCA. Childcare is provided at no charge and moms do not have to be a member at the Y to attend. The seasonal Chattanooga Market is back! It features farm-fresh produce, meats and cheeses, fresh bread, arts & crafts from local artisans, family activities, and live music and admission is free. It’s open on Sundays at the First Tennessee Pavillion located at 1826 Carter Street next to Finley Stadium

Saturday, May 8 – National Stamp Out Hunger Day (Thanks for the email, Melissa.) To help Stamp Out Hunger this year, simply leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods, like canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal, next to your mailbox prior to the time of regular mail delivery on May 8. Food items should be in non-breakable containers, such as boxes and cans. The nation’s 230,000 letter carriers will be collecting donations from homes across the country and delivering them to food banks and other hunger relief organizations in more than 10,000 local communities. Friday, May 21 – The MOMS Club of Chattanooga is putting together an annual charity event called Toddler Olympics for children age 6 and under from 10:45 am – 12:30 pm at Metropolitan Tabernacle located at 2101 Shepherd Road Chattanooga, TN 37421. Children may participate free of charge. The MOMS Club will donate $1 for each participating child and they also appreciate donations from the community. Proceeds will go to the Chattanooga Autism Center this year. Events include: Frisbee throw,10 Yard Dash, Tricycle race, community organizations, participation medals, and more. This Wednesday, March 17, Shane’s Rib Shack in Cleveland (in the Target shopping center) is having a fundraiser family day/night on St. Patrick’s Day with face painting, a Wii bowling tournament, and other fun family things throughout the day. They are going to give 10% of every order to Habitat for Humanity. It’s a great cause to be raising money for, and it should be a lot of fun. (Thanks, Matt!)

This Saturday, March 20 is the annual Pajama Day at Bruster’s Real Ice Cream! Wear your pajamas and get a free single-scoop waffle cone all day from 11 am – 11 pm! (Thanks, Amanda!) Not all Bruster’s are participating, so check with your local store if you are outside of Cleveland. Visit brusters.com to search for a location near you. Below is a picture of my boys enjoying the free icecream on Pajama Day last year! We kinda cheated by bringing pajama shirts and putting them over their regular clothes. Hey, we had other places to go that day and didn’t want to wear pajamas around town!

Community Food Drive March 1-14 in Cleveland

Here is an email I recently received from Britney. Let’s give back to our community!

Cooke’s Food Store and Junior Auxiliary is sponsoring a community food drive to help restock the shelves of The Caring Place March 1 through 14. All food donations can be dropped off in the parking lot at Cooke’s during designated hours or dropped off anytime inside the store.

Drive-by, drop-off times are Mondays through Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 4 p.m.

Barrels for food drop off will also be located at Bender Reality, Cafe Roma, Deli Boys and Mattress Expo.

All donations are welcome but the most needed foods are peanut butter, canned vegetables, canned meats, pasta and pasta sauce, according to Reba Terry, executive director of The Caring Place.

At the end of the drive all food donations collected between March 1-14 will be weighed and Cooke’s Food will match up to 5,000 lbs. in weight of food donations.
