Looking for a place to work out in Cleveland? The Y has so much to offer and you do not have to sign a contract. Plus, for the month of January 2012, the joining fee is waived! The Cleveland Family Y has tons of group fitness classes, a huge fitness center with plenty of cardio equipment and weights, an indoor pool with aquatic classes and swim lessons, a youth gym and youth fitness center, child watch center, showers, saunas, and so much more.

If you’re just interested in taking a fitness class (Zumba, Yoga, Muscle Conditioning, TurboKick, Jazzercise, Aerobic Cross-Training, Tai Chi, etc), you can purchase a punch card. It’s $60 for 12 classes, plus an annual $5 program fee.

2012 Discount Days for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts at The Tennessee Aquarium

Know any Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, or Boy Scouts in the Chattanooga area? Be sure to let them know this – the annual discount day for Girl Scouts is Saturday, January 28, 2012 from 10 am – 4 pm. Scouts and leaders in uniform get discounted admission of $10. Parents and other adults in the group can get admission for $20 and additional kids aged 3-12 may get admission for just $10. Purchase an optional Tennessee Aquarium Patch for $3.00. The annual discount day for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts is Saturday, February 4, 2012 from 10 am – 4 pm. Same prices as above.

The Tennessee Aquarium salutes the good deeds of area Scouts! Special pricing and animal programs will be offered between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Scouts will enjoy a day of fun to discover what it’s like to work with jellyfish, penguins, sharks and reptiles. In addition to regularly scheduled animal programs, keeper talks and behind-the-scenes tours, Aquarium experts have prepared informative and entertaining programs for scouts that will include live animals.

Free Kids’ Wood Workshops Every 2nd and 4th Saturday at Lowe’s

If you check FunandFrugal.com/Calendar, you probably already know this, but in case you do not – Lowe’s offers FREE kids’ wood workshops every 2nd and 4th Saturday at 10 am. Their clinic are called “Build and Grow.” They are offered to the first 50 participants to register on their website at www.lowesbuildandgrow.com. (A flyer at the Cleveland, TN Lowe’s stated it was limited to the first 99 participants to register, so different stores may have different limits.) Also, on their website, you can see a picture and description of the two projects for each month. For example, on Saturday, Jan 14, 2012, they will have a castle kids can put together and on Saturday, Jan 28, 2012, they will have a dinosaur called a “Build-A-Saurus.” Participants can also receive a free apron and goggles to wear while working on their project, plus a certificate of completion and patch to add to their apron.

EVENT DESCRIPTION:
The Cleveland Apple Festival is a family event that is held in downtown Cleveland, TN on the courthouse square. This annual festival offers a juried art and craft show, food booths, horse and hayrides, live entertainment, children’s activities (all children’s activities in the Trailhead Bicycle Kid’s Zone are free to children 12 and under) and much more. The Cleveland Apple Festival™ is a 501(c)(3) public charity that donates all net proceeds to other non-profit organizations.

Paint the Town Pottery, a paint-your-own pottery studio, was started in Dayton, TN in 2007 by Jennifer Beam. Barbara Ratcliff & Leslie Hooper (mother and daughter) opened the Cleveland store at 4691 North Lee Hwy., in March 2011. Painting pottery is fun for all ages. Many parents with young children capture their children’s handprints or footprints on pottery for a lasting keepsake. Older children usually choose animals or specialty boxes to paint. Travel mugs, all kinds of plates, platters, and bowls and cookie jars are popular with adult painters. As well as being fun to do, the pottery is practical as it is both dishwasher and microwave safe. It also makes great personalized gifts.

In addition t the regular “drop in and paint” part of the business, Paint the Town of Cleveland is presently offering “Paint & Play Thursdays” in July (children may be dropped off on Thursdays in July for 3 hours for $9.00 per child plus a minimum $10.00 purchase), art camps (next one scheduled during spring break next year), in- school pottery painting, birthday parties, and girls nights out (next one is Tuesday, July 19, 2011 from 6:00—10:00 P.M.)

The shop hours are Wednesday & Thursday 11:00 A.M.—6:00 P.M., Friday 11:00 A.M.—9:00 P.M., and Saturday 10:00 A.M.—4:00 P.M. Additional hours are available for private parties.
