Kindermusik with Mrs. Dee in Cleveland is offering 8 weeks of free “Kindermusik Village” classes for babies under 4 months of age. The class is located at Westmore Church of God in room 204 on Tuesdays at 11:30 am or 6:30 pm. If you have a baby 4-16 months old, you may try one class free. Throughout the month of February, college students, faculty and staff will have an opportunity to visit the Tennessee Aquarium for half price. To receive the College Days discount, visitors must present a valid college ID when purchasing tickets. Family members may also receive this discount when accompanied by a student or faculty member with current college ID. This offer is valid for admission to the Tennessee Aquarium, IMAX 3D Theater or combination tickets to both attractions. The discount is also extended to cruises aboard the River Gorge Explorer.

Scouts and leaders in uniform get discounted admission of $10. Parents and other adults in the group can get admission for $20 and additional kids aged 3-12 may get admission for just $10. Purchase an optional Tennessee Aquarium Patch for $3.00. The annual discount day for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts is Saturday, February 4, 2012 from 10 am – 4 pm. Same prices as above.

The Tennessee Aquarium salutes the good deeds of area Scouts! Free Kids’ Wood Workshops Every 2nd and 4th Saturday at Lowe’s

If you check FunandFrugal.com/Calendar, you probably already know this, but in case you do not – Lowe’s offers FREE kids’ wood workshops every 2nd and 4th Saturday at 10 am. Their clinic are called “Build and Grow.” They are offered to the first 50 participants to register on their website at www.lowesbuildandgrow.com. (A flyer at the Cleveland, TN Lowe’s stated it was limited to the first 99 participants to register, so different stores may have different limits.) Also, on their website, you can see a picture and description of the two projects for each month. For example, on Saturday, Jan 14, 2012, they will have a castle kids can put together and on Saturday, Jan 28, 2012, they will have a dinosaur called a “Build-A-Saurus.” Participants can also receive a free apron and goggles to wear while working on their project, plus a certificate of completion and patch to add to their apron.

Museum Center at 5ive Points To Host 2011 Tall Betsy Storytelling Night and Pumpkin Carving Contest

CLEVELAND, TN: The Museum Center at 5ive Points will host its sixth annual Tall Betsy Storytelling Night and Pumpkin Carving Contest to be held the evening of Cleveland’s Block Party, Monday, October 31st, 2011. The festive family evening at the museum will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Families are encouraged to stop by the Museum on their way to or from the Block Party to check out this free event.

Families coming to the Museum will have a variety of things to do. They will be taken on a Halloween Storytelling Trail where they will hear family-friendly stories as told by members of the Cleveland Storytelling Guild. Between the hours of 4:30 – 7:00 visitors will get an extra special treat as they will hear the Tall Betsy Story told by Deborah Holland as she portrays Tall Betsy.

Families can come by to see Tall Betsy as portrayed by storyteller, Deborah Holland.

The book “The Legend of Tall Betsy & The Mystery of Sally, the Bluetick Coonhound,” a kid-friendly Halloween tale about a little boy & his dog is available for sale in the Museum Store. The setting of the story is Cleveland and it is based on the legendary character Tall Betsy. The price of the book is $3 and all proceeds from the book go to the Museum.

Families will be able to view the Pumpkin Carving Contest submissions and winners. Also on view in the Museum’s lobby will be the original Tall Betsy’s authentic dress and original persimmon cane on loan for the day by Allan Jones who was able to “secure” these valuable and historic items back in the 1980s. Tall Betsy is one of Cleveland’s most enduring Halloween legends.

Also, The Museum Center at 5ive Points is hosting its sixth annual Pumpkin Carving Contest. This judged contest is sponsored each year by Guthrie Pumpkin Farm and Corn Maze. Those wishing to enter the contest should have their carved pumpkins to the Museum by Sunday, October 30 between 2:00 -4:00 p.m. or Monday, October 31 between 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. New this year will be the awarding of prizes in the following categories: Adult Division, Youth Division (5-16), and Professional/Artist Division. Three prizes will be awarded in each division and winners will receive $50, $25, and a Family Membership for first, second, and third place.

Prizes will be awarded Monday, October 30 at 4:00. The pumpkins must remain on display at the Museum during the Annual Tall Betsy Storytelling Night on Monday October 31st from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Admission is free for this evening of family-friendly Halloween stories, children’s crafts, treats, and visits from Tall Betsy.

The Museum Center at 5ive Points preserves and interprets the history and culture of the Ocoee District of Southeast Tennessee. The museum hosts exhibits and education programs. The Cleveland Apple Festival is a family event that is held in downtown Cleveland, TN on the courthouse square.
