2010 TN Sales Tax Holiday Aug 6-8

Good news for those who shop in Tennessee! The state of Tennessee is having another sales tax holiday very soon – August 6-8, 2010. The purpose is to allow you to purchase school supplies and school clothes tax-free. Please be sure to read all the rules and restrictions on their website at tntaxholiday.com before you shop. Click here for a direct link to the alphabetical list of items that are exempt from tax and that are still taxable during Aug. 6-8. You may be surprised that diapers are tax-free!

Bad news for those who shop in Georgia. The Georgia General Assembly did not renew legislation allowing for any sales tax holidays in 2010. Hopefully a lot of you can drive to your neighbor-state, Tennessee and get the sales tax break Aug. 6-8, 2010.

A personal note – My family has been buying Blue Ribbon organic meat and veggies for over a year now and we have been very satisfied. Has anyone heard of weeklycinema.com? I just checked out their site and it sounds like a good deal, but I’m curious if anyone else out there is a member. Looks like you join their movie ticket club and you get a free ticket just for joining and 3 movie tickets every month for $14.99. Under “frequently asked questions” on weeklycinema.com it says your free tickets are in the form of a Fandago gift certificate, which is accepted at most theatres nationwide, and saves you over 60% off the regular retail price of movie tickets. Sounds like a good deal!

I try to keep you informed of when Restaurant.com has their limited-time 80% off sales – sorry I’m a little late on this one since the sale ends Monday, July 12. I love when they have these sales! Makes for a nice date-night or an inexpensive gift for someone. You can purchase a $25 gift certificate for only $2 and a $10 gift certificate for only $.80!!! Just use code FUN by Monday, July 12, 2010 (while supplies last) when you check out at Restaurant.com to get the 80% discount off their already-reduced prices! Be sure to read the fine print. Each restaurant has different restrictions, for example a $25 gift certificate may say “minimum purchase $35.” Still sounds like a good deal to me if you pay $2 to save $25 off $35. I have heard from some of you who have had great experiences with purchasing and using Restaurant.com gift certificates. If you’re skeptical like me you probably think it’s too good to be true. Restaurant.com has been in business 10 years and I verified myself that Restaurant.com is accredited by the Better Business Bureau and has an A+ rating. Click here to see. Consider the gift certificates more like coupons – $10 off or $25 off a minimum purchase and it sounds more reasonable.

Here’s a few comments from Fun and Frugal readers: Jackie commented, “We have used several of these and have never had a problem. My parents live out of town, and one of the places we love to eat breakfast at participates with Restaraunt.com so we got a bunch to use when we visit. A family of 6 eats for $10-$15! Its wonderful!!” Joyce emailed me and said, “I used the certificate at Fulins which is not available anymore. They took it just like cash. Also I used the one from Foodworks in Chattanooga, no problem there either.” Kelly emailed, “We purchased one of the $75 certs for Kanpai of Tokyo in Chatta. It was so easy to use. I asked about it when we sat got seated just so we would know upfront what we were dealing with. The waiter was VERY familiar with the certificates and the only the I had to do was provide an i.d. since the certificate had my name.” Does anyone else have an experience to share?
