Here’s what’s coming up this week in the Cleveland/Chattanooga/Athens and surrounding areas for the week of June 14, 2010.

Tuesday, June 15
  • FREE Kids Meals are continuing through the month of June at the Cleveland Chick Fil-A! Every Tuesday is Family Night at the Cleveland Chick-fil-A from 5-8 pm. They have something fun for the family each Tuesday night such as a craft, family movie, magician, clown, etc. Bring the family for dinner and fun! This Tues. June 15 they are having movie night with the movie, Firehouse Dog.  The Cleveland Chick-fil-A is offering free kids meals on Tuesday nights from 5-8 pm again for the month of June! (Limit 2 free kids meals per adult meal purchase, no other coupons or discounts allowed, *children must be present*.) Be on the lookout for cow appearances throughout the week at lunch and dinner.   • Bring a Kraft singles wrapper to participating minor league baseball home games every Tuesday night through 9/7/10 and get BOGO tickets! Many teams are participating, including the Chattanooga Lookouts. Click here for more details and to search for a team near you.
  • Rave Motion Pictures is having a FREE Family Film Festival on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings this summer at 10 am.  Doors open at 9:30.  Jennifer, who emailed me this tip, suggested you get in line at 9:00 am.  Visit www.ravemotionpictures.com/kidtoons.aspx for more info.  There is a Rave theatre in East Ridge on 5080 South Terrace.  Click here to search for a Rave theatre near you.

  • Carmike Cinemas is having a Summer Kid’s Series every Tuesday at 10 am from June 8 through August 10, 2010.  Movie tickets, popcorn, and a drink, are all $1 each.  Click here for more info.  (Thanks, Jackie.)

Thursday, June 17

  • Michael’s craft store has a free Make-it-Take-it craft that would make a great Father’s Day gift: a ducktape wallet.  This is offered in stores from  6-8 pm.  Visit www.michaels.com for a picture and more info.

  • Every Thursday is Kiddie Day at Lake Winnepesaukah from 12-8 pm. Children 11 and younger will receive free gate admission (reg $5); family members ages 12 and older pay just $5 gate admission per person. All ages can purchase unlimited rides for only $18 per person (reg. $21). Cool off from the summer heat in the new, refreshing Chill Down Kidtown water & mist play area. Parking is always free. You can purchase individual ride tickets for $1 each (most rides are 2-5 tickets). Children under 2 are admitted free with paying adult, but must pay to ride.   • The Chattanooga Market is open every Thursday evening from 4-7 pm at Miller Plaza from May 6 through September 30, 2010. They have a different theme each week.   • Buy fresh fruits and vegetables from local Farmers at the 5 Points Market on Thursday afternoons in historic downtown Cleveland. Mainstreet Cleveland is organizing the weekly seasonal market that opens on Thursday, May 27 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Museum Center at 5ive Points. The 5 Points Market will continue each Thursday afternoon throughout the season. Local artists and crafters will feature a variety of items for sell. Entertainment and food will complete the family atmosphere. All area farmers and gardeners are invited to participate, spaces are free. Friday, June 18
  • McDonald’s is having Free Frappe Fridays at participating stores for a limited time. On Fridays from 7 am – 7 pm, you can get a free 7 oz sample size of one of their frappes.
Saturday, June 19
  • Michael’s craft store is having a free Make-it-Take-it Father’s Day card project from 10 am – 2 pm in stores while supplies last.  Visit www.michaels.com for a picture and more info.
  • The seasonal Chattanooga Market is back! It features farm-fresh produce, meats and cheeses, fresh bread, arts & crafts from local artisans, family activities, and live music and admission is free. It’s open on Sundays at the First Tennessee Pavilion located at 1826 Carter Street next to Finley Stadium from 11 am – 4 pm April 25 through December 5, 2010. Anytime

  • Free Scavenger Hunt in the Bluff View Art District in downtown Chattanooga. Be a true adventurer and explore all the District’s nooks and crannies to learn about the arts, architecture, gardening and cooking techniques that make this one of the most fascinating destinations in Chattanooga. This specially-designed scavenger hunt allows children of all ages to find out more about the District’s history and meet the experts who create this unique atmosphere. Pick up your “Scavenger Map” at Rembrandt’s Coffee House, and once you’ve solved the hunt’s mysteries, return to Rembrandt’s for your sweet reward! Participation limited to daylight hours.
Coming Up
  • The Museum Center at 5ive Points in downtown Cleveland is having a free encore showing of the Hollywood motion picture, Wild River on Tuesday, June 29 at 6:30 pm at the museum.  Popcorn and soft drinks will be available for purchase.  This movie was filmed in Bradley County 50 years ago.
