Here’s what’s coming up this week in the Cleveland/Chattanooga/Athens and surrounding areas. Local Events are posted every Sunday night. If you know of an upcoming event, email me the details at lease a week in advance to tips {at} funandfrugal {dot} com.

Tuesday, April 27

  • FREE Kids Meals are continuing through the month of April at the Cleveland Chick Fil-A! Every Tuesday is Family Night at the Cleveland Chick-fil-A from 5-8 pm. They have something fun for the family each Tuesday night such as a craft, family movie, magician, clown, etc. Bring the family for dinner and fun! This Tues. April 27 they will be having Movie Night! The Cleveland Chick-fil-A is offering free kids meals on Tuesday nights from 5-8 pm again for the month of April! (Limit 2 free kids meals per adult meal purchase, no other coupons or discounts allowed, *children must be present*.) Be on the lookout for cow appearances throughout the week at lunch and dinner. Wednesday, April 28

  • The Cleveland Chick-fil-A is having Spring Training Day!  All kids 12 and under who come dressed in their baseball or little league uniform will receive a free kids meal and a Chick-fil-A baseball! **UPDATE 4/27/10 – This has been canceled, but will be rescheduled for a later date in May.  Stay tuned to FunandFrugal.com for the new date soon.**
  • It’s the Annual 31 ¢ Scoop Night at Baskin-Robbins from 5-10 pm!  (Thanks, Melissa and Shantae for the head’s up.)  The Baskin-Robbins Community Foundation will be donating $100,000 to the National Fallen Firefighter’s Foundation.  Click here for more info, including the opportunity to sign up for a reminder email or text message about the event.  We went last year and it was really crowded, but they did a good job keeping the line moving.  There were some fire trucks and firefighters in the parking lot, too, that let kids climb in the firetruck and ask them questions.

Thursday, April 29

  • Every Thursday is Kiddie Day at Lake Winnepesaukah from 12-8 pm.  Children 11 and younger will receive free gate admission (reg $5); family members ages 12 and older pay just $5 gate admission per person.  All ages can purchase unlimited rides for only $18 per person (reg. $21). Cool off from the summer heat in the new, refreshing Chill Down Kidtown water & mist play area. Parking is always free.  You can purchase individual ride tickets for $1 each (most rides are 2-5 tickets).  Children under 2 are admitted free with paying adult, but must pay to ride. Children under one year of age may ride the Tour Train and the Carousel free of charge on an adult’s lap.  Visit www.lakewinnie.com for more info.

Friday, April 30

  • The MOMS Club of Cleveland, TN meets the last Friday of every month at 10:30 am at the Cleveland YMCA.  Childcare is provided at no charge and moms do not have to be a member at the Y to attend.  Open to full or part-time stay-at-home moms in Cleveland, McDonald, Charleston, Calhoun, Ocoee, and Benton.  Click here for more info.  Visit their facebook page here.
  • 24-Hour Chattanooga BioBlitz at the Chattanooga Nature Center (FREE) from Friday, April 30 3 pm to Saturday, May 1 3 pm.  Chattanooga BioBlitz combines the best of a festival, educational event, scientific endeavor and contest into a unique event. The BioBlitz brings together scientists and experts from across the region in a race against time to see how many species can be counted during a 24-hour biological survey of CNC and RR properties. Saturday, May 1

  • Nationwide: Lowe’s Free Grow and Build Clinic 10 am – make a school house in celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week. Click here for a picture and more details and to RSVP.
  • Nationwide: Free Make-It-Take-It Mother’s Day Bead Event at Michael’s craft store from 1 pm – 3 pm while supplies last.  Gem earrings from 1-2 pm and glass bead bracelets from 2-4 pm.   Click here for a picture and more info.

Sunday, May 2

  • The seasonal Chattanooga Market is back!  It features farm-fresh produce, meats and cheeses, fresh bread, arts & crafts from local artisans, family activities, and live music and admission is free.  It’s open on Sundays at the First Tennessee Pavillion located at 1826 Carter Street next to Finley Stadium
    from 11 am – 4 pm April 25 through December 5, 2010.  It’s also open Thursday evenings from 4-7 pm at Miller Plaza from May 6 through September 30, 2010.  They have a different theme each week.  Click here to see the calendar of events.  Visit chattanoogamarket.com for more info.

Coming Up

  • Saturday, May 8 – The Embassy ministry in Cleveland is hosting another free date night at Westwood Baptist Church in room 101.  RSVP (required) at embassy-cleveland.com.  Their website should be updated soon.  Open to all married couple of all ages . You do not need to be a member of Westwood in order to attend!  More details to come.
  • Saturday, May 8 – National Stamp Out Hunger Day  (Thanks for the email, Melissa.)  To help Stamp Out Hunger this year, simply leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods, like canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal, next to your mailbox prior to the time of regular mail delivery on May 8. Food items should be in non-breakable containers, such as boxes and cans. The nation’s 230,000 letter carriers will be collecting donations from homes across the country and delivering them to food banks and other hunger relief organizations in more than 10,000 local communities.  Visit www.stampouthunger.info for more details.
  • Monday, May 10 and Tuesday, May 11 – famed cooking personality, Sister Schubert, will be coming to the Museum Center at 5ive Points in downtown Cleveland.  Click here for more details.
  • Friday, May 21 – The MOMS Club of Chattanooga is putting together an annual charity event called Toddler Olympics for children age 6 and under from 10:45 am – 12:30 pm at Metropolitan Tabernacle located at 2101 Shepherd Road Chattanooga, TN 37421.  Children may participate free of charge.  The MOMS Club will donate $1 for each participating child and they also appreciate donations from the community.  Proceeds will go to the Chattanooga Autism Center this year.  Events include: Frisbee throw,10 Yard Dash, Tricycle race, community organizations, participation medals, and more.  For more info, please call Cheryl at (706) 858-5667.

    Q93.9 will be helping “Stamp Out Hunger” at Super Saver on the corner of Georgetown Rd & Paul Huff Parkway on Saturday, May 8th from 11 – 1 with the National Letter Carriers. Come out and help us with non-perishable food items this coming Saturday. We hope to see you there.
