Upcoming Local Events Week of April 12

I hope you and your family had a wonderful Easter weekend. Here’s what’s coming up this week in the Cleveland/Chattanooga/Athens and surrounding areas. If you know of an upcoming event, email me the details at tips {at} funandfrugal {dot} com.

Tuesday, April 13

  • FREE Kids Meals are continuing through the month of April at the Cleveland Chick Fil-A! Every Tuesday is Family Night at the Cleveland Chick-fil-A from 5-8 pm. They have something fun for the family each Tuesday night such as a craft, family movie, magician, clown, etc. Bring the family for dinner and fun! This Tues. April 13 they will be having Pokey Dot the Clown! The Cleveland Chick-fil-A is offering free kids meals on Tuesday nights from 5-8 pm again for the month of April! (Limit 2 free kids meals per adult meal purchase, no other coupons or discounts allowed, *children must be present*.) Be on the lookout for cow appearances throughout the week at lunch and dinner.   • Cleveland State Community College will have a festival on campus from 10-2 pm to celebrate their Culturefest Week.  It will feature a parade of flags at 9:45, and exhibits, entertainment and food from many cultures. Students (homeschoolers are welcome) will receive a passport to have stamped at different booths, and then they can enjoy the free cuisine of various cultures.  (Thanks, Karen)

Thursday, April 15

  • Home Depot is having a FREE Do-It-Herself Workshop from 7:00-8:30 pm entitled Martha Stewart Living Paint Workshop.  While it is free, they would like you to RSVP here.  Speaking of Home Depot, have you signed up for their Garden Club?  They periodically send out coupons by email and mail.  I just got some coupons in the mail the other day for BOGO Spectracide insect killer; $2 off Kingsford briquettes; $3, $6, or $9 off Scotts Turf Builder (depending on what size bag you get); and $2 off Clorox Pro Outdoor Bleach.  Just click here and select Garden Club to sign up.

Saturday, April 17

  • Spring Vendor Show at North Lee Elementary School (First Grade Hall and Cafeteria) in Cleveland from 9 a, – 3 pm. Sponsored by the North Lee Ruritan Club. Lunch is $4 (soup, sandwich, dessert, & drink) and will be served 11am – 1pm in the North Lee School Cafeteria. If you would like more info on getting a vendor spot (cost $10) contact Bridget at 478-5954 or 715-2138.
  • The Cleveland Baby Fair will be at The Museum Center at 5ive Points in downtown Cleveland from 1-5 pm. Click here for more info.
  • Cleveland State Community College is hosting an event called “It’s All About the Green” from 10 am to 3 pm. Festivities include live music, exhibits, plant exchange, children’s activities, presentations, giveaways, reusable shopping bags, free trees, t-shirts, and door prizes. If you want to do the plant exchange, please check in between 9:30-10:00. The exchange will be from 10:00-2:00. If you would like more information about renting a booth ($25 fee), please contact Beirne at bbeaty {at} clevelandstatecc {dot} edu.
  • YMCA Healthy Kids Day at the Cleveland YMCA from 9 am – 12 pm. Car seat checks will be available. More details to come. (Thanks, Jennifer R.)
  • Kiwanis Pancake Day is at the Bald Headed Bistro/Village Green from 7-11am.  Cost is $6/person.  Funds raised support the Kiwanis Club’s community service projects.  Tickets are available the day of the event, or may be purchased in advance by calling Kathy Austin at 423.715.6331.  More information is available at:  www.kiwanisclevelandtn.org.
  • Westside Ruritan’s 21st Annual Spring Run is at Walker Valley High School out front.  Registration begins at 7:30 am, Race at 8:00 am. Pre-registration $10.00, Day of Race $12.00. Contact Joyce Johnson at 423.336.5653.  Forms are at Smalleys Shoe Repair in Cleveland.

Sunday, April 18

  • Cleveland State Community College is sponsoring a concert by the Chattanooga Boys Choir on April 18 at 2:30 pm. If boys from the Cleveland area are interested in membership, Mr. Oakes will be available to discuss auditions, and perhaps even to hear them on that day. This is the final event in CSCC’s Culturefest week.  Admission is free and is in the auditorium of the George R. Johnson Cultural Heritage Center on the CSCC campus. (Thanks, Karen)

Coming Up

  • Ticket are on sale for Day Out with Thomas at the TN Valley Railroad Museum April 23, 24, 25 and May 1 and 2, 2010. For those of you with little Thomas the Train fans in your household, you will love this fun-filled day like we do! Tickets are $14-$18.     There is a low cost vaccination clinic at Dixie Day Spay on Airport Rd. in Cleveland, TN, tomorrow, Sat. April 17th! $10 for rabies vaccine! Vaccine is good for 3 years!!!
