Stock up on Pampers!

My personal preference for diapers, based on price and quality is to use Babies R Us store brand diapers (Expecially for Baby brand) during the day and Pampers at night. I wait until they are on sale and then I stock up on as many as I can. I got a great deal on Pampers today at Babies R Us and Toys R Us and stocked up big time. My mom and I are each on the Babies R Us mailing list, so we each recently got some coupons in the mail, including one for $5 off any value box of Huggies or Pampers. The coupon has both the Babies R Us and Toys R Us logo on it.
I also had some manufacturer coupons for Pampers that I had gotten from the back of Cheerios boxes and from coupon blinkies in a grocery store a while back (I forgot which store.) Remember, you can stack store coupons with manufacturer coupons to get even more savings.
I was pleasantly surprised to find two additional bonuses at Toys R Us and Babies R Us that I didn’t know about. One of them is a promotion where you get a free $15 Toys/Babies R Us gift card with the purchase of any 3 Pampers diapers/wipes and the other great surprise was they have a new rewards program you can sign up for and with the purchase of 9 Pampers value boxes, you get your 10th one free! I signed up at the store right away! They will also mail/email you exclusive member-only benefits periodically.
So, here’s how my shopping trip for Pampers went today. First, I went to Toys R Us and bought 3 value boxes of size 5 Pampers. The regular price is $40.69 per box. You get 156 diapers in the Baby Dry box and 124 diapers in the Cruisers box. (I would have got all Baby Dry boxes since they have more per box, but they didn’t have enough.) I saved $5.00 per box with the coupon from the mail (one coupon will work for all boxes you buy.) Then I saved an additional $1.50 per box with the manufacturer coupons I had. Then I earned a free $15 gift card for buying 3 Pampers boxes! So, I saved $19.50 with coupons plus got a free $15 gift card.
Then I went to Babies R Us and got three more value boxes of size 5 Pampers. Again, I had another coupon from the mail (since my mom gave me hers) for $5-off each value Pampers box and I had another $1.50 manufacturer coupon and two $1.00 manufacturer coupons. I saved $18.50 with coupons plus an extra $15 by paying with the above gift card, plus I earned another $15 gift card for buying 3 Pampers boxes! So all together I saved $68 (including the two $15 gift cards) plus I got 6 boxes counted towards the 9 I need to get my 10th box free! I won’t have to buy Pampers for two years (since we only use one at night.) I can always exchange an unopened box later if I need to swap out sizes, but I suspect we’ll be fine with size 5’s as long as we need diapers, just like my older son was.
Oh, and there was a coupon in the mail from Babies R Us for a free 2 oz bottle of BabyGanics natural all-purpose cleaner ($.99 value.) Toys R Us didn’t have any, but Babies R Us had them behind the counter.

This is the kind of thing that I would never think to do. I’m just not coupon savvy yet. Thanks for the tip!

Gloria,
What did you actually spend per diaper? It seems like a great deal.

I don’t have my receipt with me so I don’t know how the tax was calculated (before/after couopns, etc.). Not including tax, I paid $.20 per diaper. $40.69 reg price x 6 boxes = $244.14 less $68 savings from coupons & gift cards = $176.14 for 6 boxes, which contains 872 diapers (156X4 in the size 5 Baby Dry and 124X2 in the sz 5 Cruisers) all together. $176.14/872 diapers= $.20 per diaper. Of course the smaller the size diaper you get the more per box you get, which makes them cheaper per diaper for smaller sizes. Hope that helps.

Hi everyone – here is the math on the diapers (I calculated using the info on Gloria’s post)
FIRST TRANSACTION
Value box 40.69
Value box 40.69
Value box 40.69
subtotal 122.07
tax 9.46
total before Q’s 131.53
COUPONS
minus Toys R Us Q -5
minus Toys R Us Q -5
minus Toys R Us Q -5
minus manuf coupon -1.5
minus manuf coupon -1.5
minus manuf coupon -1.5
total spent after Q’s 112.03
earned $15 gift card
SECOND TRANSACTION
3 boxes before Q’s 131.53
COUPONS
minus coupons -18.5
after coupons 113.03
minus gift card -15
spent 98.03
EARNED ANOTHER $15 GIFT CARD
The total Gloria spent was $210.06 for 6 boxes of value diapers which comes out to $35.01 per box or 28.2 cents per diaper.
If you subtract the second $15 gift card she earned, then her total would be $195.06, which is $32.51 per box or 26.2 cents per diaper.
Hope that helps!

Jenny, the cost per box (excluding tax) was $29.36. $176.14 for 6 boxes = $29.36 per box. See above for how I got $176.14. I saved $11.33 per box ($40.69 reg price less $29.36 my cost = $11.33.) Hope that helps.

This offer is also good on the pampers wipes, and dreft. Pampers wipes- 616 ct is $14.99 per box, and there was a $2.00 off babies r us coupon mailed out for wipes that expires 2/7. Stack that with manuf. coupons, and the gift card you’ll earn, its a pretty sweet deal. I am expecting in may, and have been stockpiling diapers, So I may do the wipes and diapers deal, earn a gift card, and then do another deal to lessen the ammount OOP. I also need dreft…but I am better off buying store brand…the bottle you have to buy for this promotion is 27.99….ouch!

I had a rare moment without the babe and went to Toys R Us to price out diapers. I found out that the store brand Especially for Baby (which I have used before and like) and they are two for $35. I priced out three sizes and it’s a great deal, even w/out coupons.
Size 4 – 13.8 cents each
Size 5 – 15 cents each
Size 6 – 19 cents each

Melody, I love Especially for Baby brand, too. I use those as “day” diapers and then Pampers for “night” diapers. I wait for the Especially for Baby value box diapers to go on sale 2 for $30 and then I stock up on those.
