I haven’t gone to any of these yet since my children are under age 4, and I think kids need to be 4 and up to go. Does anyone know? Here’s an email I got from Jennifer with some info:
I was just at Home Depot this morning and the cashier told me about their kids’ workshops that they have the first Sat. of every month from 9 to 11 AM. She said it is free and the kids even get a Home Depot apron. The materials are provided as well.
Also, Lowes has kids workshops as well. I just called them and they said on the first and last Sat. of each month. The one this weekend is building a firetruck. My friend went and her kids made pirate ships last time and she used the pirate ships at her son’s birthday party last weekend as a table decoration.

they do put an age limit on it but if you are there with your kids you can do it with them if they are under 4. I think my husband took my son when he was three but he needed to really help him. Everything has pre drilled holes but there will still be hammer and mails involved. Both places give them cute little aprons (for free) that they bring with them everytime and Home Depot give patches for each project that they do and Lowes gives pins to attach to the aprons. Also I think it is lowes but they also give safty goggles as well. They are usually cute project they make. If your child is 4 or older the parent can choose to do it with them or let the people they have for the project guide them.

My understanding is that they are rather lenient about the age of children you bring, of course you need to be providing appropriate supervision. But I’m sure every store is a little different, so you just have to go check it out for yourself! The kids workshops at The Home Depot and Lowe’s are a great “get out of the house” activity that is free (as long as you resist the temptation to make a purchase there).

Thanks for the info Summer and Heather. Glad to know I can bring my 3 1/2 year old. They sound like fun workshops.
